Tip #2: Monetize Your Blog - Affiliate Programs

Affiliate websites are a platform which sellers use to sell their products. People who promotes their products and create a sale will earn a commission from these sellers. Affiliate programs are a great way to monetize a blog as bloggers can promote any products, preferably a product that is related to field, on their blogs.

Bloggers may also recommend products that are a must-buy. Be truthful. Give a brief idea of what the product is about and why is it beneficial for your readers to get it. This will be hard in the beginning. You may generate little or no sale. But never give up. Over time, you will gain the trust of your readers.

Darren Rowse, creator of ProBlogger, is one who you can learn from. He had done well in affiliate programs. He had written a book titled 31 Days To Build A Better Blog. The link will bring you to Darren's blog where he will tell you more about his book.

There are several affiliate programs you can choose from.
LinkShare, ClickBank, Comission Junction, E-junkie and Amazon

Search through the products available after signing up. Promote products that are popular to increase your chance of a sale.

Tip #1: Monetize Your Blog - Ad Network

There are a few ways to monetize a blog. But allow me to start with the use of ad network. Ad network provides a platform for advertisers to advertisement on publishers' websites. Register as a publisher in these ad networks and you will be given a code which you are to place in your blog. Some ad networks have criteria, like having a minimum number of pageview per month, before you can join. These ad networks usually pay more. There are different methods in which ad network pays publishers - CPM, click-through or CPA. I recommend bloggers with high pageview but low click-through to look for ad networks that have high payout for CPM.

Here are some ad networks which you can consider.
AdBrite, ValueClick, Casale Media, Burst Media, Tribal Fusion, Advertising

This method is one of the easiest method of monetizing. Many bloggers have done it and have earn money from it. In the next post, I will be sharing how you can monetize with affiliate programs. Stay tuned.

In my post, Guide To Make Money With Your Blog, I've mentioned various ways to make money with a blog. In this and upcoming posts, I will give you tips to making money with your blog. It will be a series of post, so stay tuned.

Monetizing a blog seems easy and I've seen people cramping all sorts of affiliate links and ad networks in a page. You (might) get money from it but it will not sustain.

3 reasons that makes monetizing difficult:

1. You need a traffic in order to earn money. Affiliate programs and ad networks pays only when the website has generated a purchase through the affiliate link, click-through or impression. If a website is full of advertisement but no content, Google has no reason to include it in their search engines. Web crawlers will avoid such pages. As a result, the website will be unknown and thus, no traffic.

2. A blogger needs to gain the trust of his/her readers. When a blogger promotes or writes a review for a product, the readers may or may not believe him. Whatever he said might not be true in the eyes of the readers even if the blogger is right. And when readers do not trust a blogger, the chances of them purchasing something which they recommend is extremely low.

3. Advertisements have to be related to the blog content. An advertisement about mp3 will not convert in a blog about books. Don't be lazy. Search hard for a related advertiser and you will definitely benefit from it.

Being successful in blogging does not happen in a day, a week nor a month. It is like a business. Blogging requires time and effort. So, it is important to choose something that is of your interest. Give it your best and never give up.

Post titles are like a person's clothes. Titles will give your readers a brief summary of your content. When your title incite the interest of your readers, they will continue to read your content. Thus, it is important to have a good title.

But how do you give your content a good title?

1. Keep your title short. Make it easy for your readers to read the title.

2. Use keywords. These keywords will help in SEO and it helps give a better understanding of your post.

3. Capture your readers attention. This is difficult and takes time before you can master it. One way to learn how to capture a reader attention is by reading other blogs. Check out the titles and see which catches your attention. Those words may work to capture your readers attention.

Like every other things, giving a good and effective title to your content isn't easy. It requires lots of practice. I am also not able to come up with good titles. Even simple titles like those that I came up with took me some time.

Share your tips here on an effective title.

Search engines are tools that everyone uses to look for something online. "Get, how, guide" are few of the many things that people look. Finding all these things are not possible without search engines. Imagine searching for something without it... You might even spend the whole day but find nothing. Now that we know the importance and how reliant we are on search engines, there is one other thing that you should know. That is how search engines work.

If you have ever tried finding out, you will come across the words "mathematical algorithms". Those words would immediately kill our interest. But it is good to at least know the basics of how search engines work. This will help in Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

There are three components to search engine - crawling, indexing, ranking.

1. Crawling
You should have come across this word quite frequently. Web crawlers or "spiders" are codes that search engines like Google uses to get information from the internet. It scans through the page and continues crawling from pages to pages. However, it doesn't stop there. It occasionally returns to pages it had went to and checks for any updates made to the page. This gives blogs a slight advantage over websites. Blogs are regularly updated with new contents and thus, web crawlers love them. Although web crawlers may seem intelligent, at times, it might have problem reading through you content. Keeping your content simple makes it easier for your readers to read but also easier for web crawlers to scan through.

2. Indexing
After scanning through your page, web crawlers store the information in a huge data base. This allows for future reference for both web crawlers and searchers. It also rates the relevance of various contents to keywords used.

3. Ranking
This is where the "mathematical algorithms" come into play. Criteria are set to determine the rank of search results. This is equally important as being ahead of your competitors will give you a slight advantage. Searchers will view your blog first instead of your competitors. And if your blog provides all the relevant information they require or seek, they will most probably not look for another website. Then it will be up to you on how you are going to turn this person into your regular reader.

I have summarized the basics of the way search engines work. This helps you better understand search engines and how to make use of them. Search engines are able to make wonders. By making full use of it, you will not only bring in traffic, but also targeted traffic.

Communication is important in our daily lives. Ever since the internet has become part of lives, people usually communicate on the internet. Although it isn't something bad, but we are losing out on something. Its different to communicate with someone in person. You get to see the person's expression, hear the tone of his/her voice and even tell the mood of that person.

Communication is also important when it comes to internet marketing. And for bloggers, you need to stay in contact with your readers. Interact with them and get them to stay active on your blog. One of the easiest ways to do so is to enable comments. Allow your readers to comment on your post with no restrictions, meaning that they can post anything except for spamming. People love it when they are not tied down to something. So, give your readers their freedom. Competitions can, too, interact with your readers and might even bring in more. I will be putting up competitions in the future too. Definitely there will be prizes to be won but I have yet to think of the prizes. You may give some ideas by leaving comments. I greatly appreciate it.

Don't lose something that we are good at. Communication help forge bonds between people. Do your best not to neglect your friends and family because of work. You need a break in order to perform better. Stay healthy and stay with Bloggitudes.

Facebook is a great place to market your product or website. According to TIMES magazine, Facebook has about half a billion of active users. People not only register to Facebook but they also visit Facebook regularly. Facebook is co-founded by Mark Zuckerberg, who is a billionaire at the age of 26. Facebook is only 6 years old and is continuing to grow everyday.

So, why market on Facebook?

The 500 million users all have one thing in common, and it is that they are not afraid to share. Anyone is able to view their profile but whatever you see is what the user is willing to share. After being his/her friend, you have access to everything. By marketing your product on Facebook, you have 500 million potential customers, supposing that you allow the users view your profile. Facebook users spend at least half an hour on Facebook and there is a chance in which they might come across your product. They may or may not become your customer on that day. But over time, they will be. Also, your product is not limited to the 500 million users on Facebook. The users might share it with their friends or relatives who are not Facebook users about your product, like how they share things on their 'wall'. Give it a try! Facebook is free to join and you can start as soon as you register.

There are also many other social networking websites which are great places to market. Twitter (20 million users), MySpace (42 million users), LinkedIn (14 million users) and PeopleString which is a different kind of social network. PeopleString is special as it shares its monthly ad revenue with its user. I will talk more about PeopleString in the next post. These social networking websites are free to join, making advertising of your product free!

Bloggitudes will be integrating ShareThis widget to allow readers to share the content with anyone you know. Keep a look out for latest updates. Subscribe to Bloggitudes.

There are many different ways to make money with your blog. You can do it through affiliate networks, creating advertisement space, selling your own e-book, get paid to review products etc. These different ways can add up to a large amount if you are good.

Darren Rowse, founder of ProBlogger.Net, made $72,000 in an e-book launch. He is a great blogger. He has more than 80,000 subscribers and has Google PageRank 5 (as of May 2010). He has provided tons of quality contents for his readers and of course, he gained the trust of his readers, which is one of the reason for his success.

You can create an e-book or help other people to sell their e-books and earn a commission from it. Affiliate networks allow you to find products which you can earn commission from and all that you need to do is to register in the affiliate network and post affiliate links of the product which you want to sell.

Affiliate Networks:
ClickBank is one of the most credible affiliate networks you can find. Billions have been paid to Clickbank's clients and this amount is constantly increasing. ClickBank is free to join and you can start earning as soon as you have registered. Checks will be issued to your address when you meet the minimum threshold of $10.

Advertisement Space:
You can also create advertisement space using third-party websites or getting advertisers to pay you directly. You can use PayPal as a payment processor. PayPal is reliable and almost everyone has a PayPal account. However, I recommend that you use third-party websites as it is much easier to set up the advertisement space. You can use AdvertiseSpace or BuySellAd. Currently, I am using AdvertiseSpace which you can see at the right of my blog. I am considering of switching to BuySellAd as it has a wider base of advertisers.

One of the easiest way to monetize your blog is using AdSense. There are also other ad networks that provides similar service as AdSense. There are also different methods in which you can earn from it, CPC or CPM, which are the most common. If you have large amount of pageviews a month, I recommend that you look for ad networks that pays by CPM. Otherwise, I suggest that you stick to AdSense.

Some bloggers monetize their blogs while others don't. Monetizing your blog does not necessary guarantee that you will earn from it. It depends on your level of traffic and the type of traffic. Stay tune to Bloggitudes by subscribing to Bloggitudes and learn more about monetizing.
As promised, I have added in Bloggitudes About page. Bloggitudes will continue to provide excellent service and contents to its readers.

And today is the first week anniversary of Bloggitudes. Bloggitudes is doing fine and will continue to grow day by day.

In Search Engine Optimization, The Follow Up, I have mentioned that it is important to set goals. Goals are the motivation that drives you to your target. Everyone should have at least a goal.

I was told about a research done on setting realistic goals. These goals were either written or simply kept somewhere in their head. Most people will do the latter. Here is the truth... Both groups of people managed to achieve their goals. However, the group which wrote down their goals did much better and became more successful. Having a goal keeps us on track.

Start writing down your goals and keep it somewhere safe. Whenever you feel demoralize, take out the paper with you goals written on it. Read out your goals and tell yourself that you can do it. Aim higher and if you ever fall, you will not be far. If you are a blogger, set goals for your blog now, either achieving a certain number of readers or increasing your rankings. You need to be specific. Write down the exact target (eg. I want to have 10,000 pageviews in the next 2 months). Its simple to write down your goals but it is difficult to achieve it. Never give up, have faith in yourself.

I do have goals for Bloggitudes too. I aim to reach 5,000 pageviews in 6 months and having 100 subscribers to Bloggitudes. This will be done through hard work and making this blog better. So, stay tune for more updates. I will be launching competitions for Bloggitudes readers as soon as I have reached my goal.

This is all I have for you and the rest depends will on yourself. Once again, I wish you good luck! Subscribe to Bloggitudes.

Posting seems easy and I thought it was too. But there are some things that you need to have and will make a big difference. This may even make your readers love you more and come back often.

1. Show the date of which the content was created. This may seem rather not important. But it is good to know which are the recent posts.

2. Show the author of the content. The author can be from you or maybe one of your readers. You wouldn't want to read a content from an anonymous person.

3. Keep the process of commenting simple! You might want to prevent spamming on your website but do have faith on those who stumbled upon your website. They might your regular readers or soon to be a regular reader of your website. So, take away the word verification and not make commenting hard.

4. Use paragraphs. Don't lump everything together. Its difficult read. Imaginetypingsomethingwithnospacing. Now you agree with me?

5. Keep your content about 200 to 800 words. Long contents can be boring.

6. Write like a dummy. Don't make your content too profound and require your readers to flip through the dictionary. Let them read through your content smoothly.

7. Make a link to related topics and your homepage either at the top or bottom of your content. This allows your readers to navigate through your website easily.

8. Love what you are posting. Your readers will feel it. (:

Try them out and let me know if it works. I wish you all the best!

This is a follow up of the previous post: Search Engine Optimization, The Hot Topic. In this follow up, I will be teaching you tips of utilizing SEO. SEO is important for internet marketers and website owners. The world is becoming more and more reliant on the internet and people are using search engines to look for something. But why?

The Internet is able to provide relevant information at high speed. And time is precious. Would you rather flip through a dictionary for a word or look for it on Dictionary.com. I will definitely choose to look for the word on the internet. The internet also provides communication with anyone around the world. This allows businesses to have a wide reach of audience.

How to utilize SEO?
1. Use keywords. Your website will have a higher chance to be spotted by web crawlers with keywords. If you are not sure what keywords to use, browse through the internet and you will see a few words that constantly pops out.

2. Have a good title for your entries. Keep them short and it will be great if your title is able to summarize your entry.

3. Focus on a single topic. This can be done by having follow ups. Interlink your related posts.

4. Create backlinks. You will also need to be active on forums related to your website. Post the link to your website or recommend your posts to the users in the forum.

These 4 steps will help increase your traffic. As mentioned in Search Engine Optimization, The Hot Topic, you need to constantly update your website and provide quality content. Never stop doing so and your website will never stop having traffic. Have a goal in mind. You will be shock by the power of having a goal.

You may not understand the term SEO, neither do I. I am not a professional myself and definitely, I am more like most of you. Currently, I am exposing myself to more of such contents, like SEO etc. This is important as to provide quality content on Bloggitudes.

What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is method to improve quantity and drive quality traffic to your websites or blogs without spending a dime through search engines. This method of getting traffic to your website or blog is very effective. Most of us, start off by trying not to spend a single cent and also expect results. You might be unsure if this path is right for you. Thus, I recommend you to read up on SEO. As mentioned earlier, SEO is free but you will need to fully understand it before gaining from its benefits.

Why is SEO effective?
Basically, traffic from search engines shows a higher interest in your website or blog. The reason they have landed on your website is because they have search for a topic that can be found on your website. And of course, your website or blog is included in one of the results. However, this may not be useful if your website is not found within the first few pages of results. People tend to view only the first few pages of results as most results tend to get more irrelevant.

For new-comers, your website tend to not be listed in various search engines because it is new. Search engines use web crawlers, also know as web spiders, to locate websites. This may be the only type of spider you will love.

Here are the few popular search engines that you should get your website listed on:
1. Add to Google
2. Add to Yahoo!
3. Add to Bing

Forcing the spiders to your website isn't sufficient. You need to have good content to keep them coming and be the first few of search results. It is also a way to keep your readers. You will not want to provide something not so interesting and yet, expect people to read it. They may stumble on your website once, but they will never be back. Be sure to keep your contents up-to-date and contents that are intriguing.

There are many different types of blogs like personal blogs, blogshops, gaming blogs and not forgeting, blogs like Bloggitudes. Although blogs may be different, all bloggers have one common goal and that is traffic. Traffic is the main driving force of a blog's success.

Blogging Is Easy As ABC
Blogs are easy to setup and its free unless you have a custom domain. The few popular blog platforms are Blogger.com and WordPress.com. Registering and publishing your blog will take less than an hour. However, your blog will have a rather simple template. It is okay but it will not appeal to your readers. And thats important! You will be able to create your own personal template if you have the required knowledge. You may also look for blog templates on various search engines like Google.com and Yahoo.com

For Blogger.com:
eBlog Templates provides templates for Blogger users, both free and premium templates. Templates found there are reasonable. The templates may not look very professional but are definitely more appealing than default templates. You may do some minor edit of the template to suit your blog better. And of course, credit the creator of the template.

For WordPress:
Don't worry. I will not leave out WordPress users. WordPress Premium Themes provides templates for you. Similarly, the templates may not be of top standards. But I will give them 7 of 10 stars for effort.

Creating templates isn't easy as it seems. Some templates require you to purchase them to use it. This is to credit to the creator of that template. I am sure he had spent quite some time to create the template and make it as professional as possible. He had save you precious time and your readers may even fall in love with your blog!

Feel free to leave your comment here. Help other bloggers and get help from them in return.

In this article, I will explain how Alexa affects bloggers and webmasters. And of course, how to increase your Alexa rank.

Basically, you will need to understand what Alexa.com does. Alexa is founded in 1996 and provides massive amount of data for webmasters till today. Alexa has developed a toolbar used by many people. And in return, you get something back.

What is Alexa toolbar?
Alexa toolbar is no different from any other toolbar you can find on the Internet. It allows you to customize it the way you like, by adding widgets like Facebook or Twitter. The toolbar indicates the Alexa rank of the website you are viewing and also other information. Here is something that is most important. Whenever you visit a website, you will be providing information of the trends that shape the web. I will explain later.

What is Alexa rank?
Alexa rank indicates the level of traffic of a particular website. This data is gathered from Internet users who use the Alexa toolbar to visit the website.

Why increase your Alexa rank?
As mention earlier, Alexa rank determines the level of traffic that a website receives. Thus, the better your rank, it shows that there is high level of traffic to your website and this makes your website more valuable! Advertisers and Ad Networks uses Alexa rank to gauge the worth of your website. Now you know why you should increase your Alexa rank.

How do you increase your Alexa rank?
Its simple! It takes only mintues to do so. Install Alexa toolbar and make your website as your homepage. Add Alexa widget in your website. This will not help you increase much of your Alexa rank if you do not post quality content. You will need to attract a firm level of traffic. Recommend your readers to install the toolbar too. Next, publicize your website or blog. This can help you gain recognition and thus, increase your traffic. Auto-surf and manual-surf websites may help increase your Alexa rank a little. But I recommend manual-surf than auto-surf websites. Auto-surfers do not read and may not even look at your website. They might be leaving their computer switch on and doing something else. Manual-surf requires the surfer to click to the next website before gaining a credit. Hence, your website will definitely be seen by them.

Here are some manual-surf website(s) to help you out. EasyHits4U pays $0.30 for each 1000 sites that you view. You will also get 50 free credits and 500 text ad impression after viewing your first 50 sites. There are many more benefits on EasyHits4U.

Subscribe to Bloggitudes to get more updates! Bloggitudes wishes you the best of luck increasing your Alexa rank.
